What are the Seven Principles of Lean Methodology? select all that apply.

Hello everyone. Welcome back to this session. So today in this session we are going to discuss the Lean methodology in software development.

So let’s go ahead and start with this session. So guys, in Lean methodology, Lean methodology is the same as Agile methodology but with some more principles, right?

7 Principles of Lean Methodology

So there are basically as is this is 7 principles principles of Lean methodology. Let’s discuss them one by one. So the motto where I can say the main focus of Lean methodology is to eliminate waste right?

Lean as the name suggests the Agile methodology was more focused on creating shorter release cycles, but it was still not perfect, right? It was not perfect for the internal employees.

The reason is that sometimes they became directionless because everything was planned by the senior management and if in case the senior management failed because of prioritizing tasks or something like that, in that case, the whole project would fail.

So the employees who were under the senior management right, they felt not that empowered because everything was given to them. They just had to develop, they had no say in the whole project.

So in the lean model, we focus on eliminating waste which we are going to discuss in a few moments, and of course, empowering your workforce, right? So let’s focus on the first part which is eliminate waste.

7 Principles of Lean Methodology

Eliminate Waste

So in lean methodology, you say that you know that you do not have to waste time in meetings, and you do not have to waste your time in teaching someone. You develop skills in your team, right?

You would say there are 12 people in your team, you would say three people should be focused on one technical domain, and the other three should be focused on the other technical domain, right?

And the work would be distributed according to that right. So if there is like in our Agile methodology, there was, we were talking about knowledge transfer. So in that case the knowledge transfer would not be required because you would always have people who are perfectly experienced in a particular domain and all you have to do is give them the project and they’ll think of something to how to manage it, right.

So basically you should have faith in your employees as to they are going to do better, they’re going to perform to the best of their ability, right?

So the first point is to eliminate waste we do not want to waste time in knowledge transfers or we do not want to waste time in big meetings, right? Everything has to be done faster like we do in agile methodology, but also with people who are very much experienced in their technology to make.

Amplify Learning

The second thing is to amplify learning. Now if there are there is a new person in the team or if there’s a newbie in the team, all the senior management has to do it do is assign them to a particular domain, and domain people will teach that person what exactly they have to learn, right?

So the senior management does not have to get involved in two knowledge transfers, right? While that person is working in their team, he automatically gets a direction that I have to be the perfect developer in this particular field in this particular territory, right? So this is amplified learning.

Decide as late as possible

The third thing is to decide as late as possible. Now this focuses on the fact that we should not waste time in planning. Give as little time in planning as possible.

Planning is of course important but you should not have like two or three-hour meetings like we do have for board meetings as you guys might know right? So decide as late as possible.

Deliver as fast as possible

That is, do not waste your time in planning. Deliver as possible. Focus on your work.

Empower the Team

Focus on what you’re doing rather than planning right for then we have to empower the team. So like I said, Lean methodology is all about empowering your workforce, empowering your team.

It focuses on the team becoming more experts in the kind of domain that they’re working on. So empower the team.

Build Integrity

Build integrity, right? So every company has a particular work culture. So the work culture should be integral to the terms that everyone should feel that for a great company, you’re working for a great team in the company, right? So this is the kind of sense that you have to imbibe in your workforce.

And that is only possible when you take care of your employees. You take care of their work-life balance and you also take care that whatever work they are doing, they become successful in that right? So that is only possible when you have good project management in your teams and when you’re working in the lean methodology where you focus more on work than on useless meetings, right?

See the Whole

And the last point is to see the whole. So we should see the whole project rather than getting into the integrities of you know whether this employee this feature is going out or the project manager should be able to see the whole team as a fruitful project which is going to empower my employees as well and at the same time the customer should be happy as well.

So this is you create your team or you work as a manager in your team and you teach your employees how they have to work. So if you follow these principles you’re following the lean model and like I said the lean model does exactly what the agile methodology does.

Advantages of Lean Methodology

So if you talk about the advantages, you have the same advantages of the Agile methodology.

but at the same time, you also create a positive working environment because you’re empowering your employees. You’re giving them a direction. They know exactly where they’re heading, they’re getting experts in a particular domain and hence they become confident.

Customer feedback is given utmost importance and because so this is important or is an advantage. The reason is that you the the principal state that sees a project as a whole, not only you’re focusing on your workforce, but you’re also focusing on the requirements of the customer, right?

So the customer is also given importance. The reason is that the feedbacks that he gives are regularly implemented in the release cycles that we are planning for our future. The features that they’re giving are being planned for future releases, right? This gives customer feedback importance as well.

The fourth point is, that limiting waste saves time and money. Now because you are focusing on shortening the planning, shortening the meetings and you’re only focusing on the important things which are there.

You are limiting the waste and hence you’re saving time and of course money because now the same project can be delivered in less time, right? So the advantage of the Lean model is that it limits the time and the money.

Disadvantages of Lean Methodology

Now let’s talk about some disadvantages of Lean methodology. So it is largely dependent on the capacity or the expertise of the team. So it is very important to hire the right people, right?

If you don’t hire the right people, your project could fail and this is a disadvantage of lean methodology.

The second point is that there is no room for error, the reason is because everything is happening so fast there is no room for error. You have to do everything perfectly and this becomes a disadvantage of Lean methodology.

The Third point is that the success of the project depends heavily on the customer interaction. So this is what was the disadvantage of Agile methodology.

The Bottom Line

To sum up, the seven principles of Lean Methodology offer a strong basis for businesses looking to improve productivity, save costs, and offer outstanding value to clients. Through comprehension and use of these concepts, enterprises can foster an environment that prioritizes ongoing enhancement and creativity.
